World Cup 2019: Bangladesh set 263 runs target against Afghanistan

Put into bat, Bangladesh posted 262 for seven wickets against Afghanistan in a group match of the Cricket World Cup on a slow track at the Hampshire Bowl on Monday.

Off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman was the pick of the Afghan bowlers claiming 3-39 as his team chase their first victory of the tournament after six defeats in a row.

Victory for Bangladesh would move them into fifth place in the 10-team table.

That would leave Bangladesh within one point of fourth placed England, who play Australia on Tuesday, as the race hots up to qualify for the semi-finals via a top four finish.

Afghanistan became the first team to be eliminated after an agonising 11-run loss against India on Saturday, when Mohammed Shami’s final-over hat-trick denied them a famous upset.

The toss was delayed for ten minutes owing to wet outfield after rain. Afghanistan have made two changes as Hazratullah Zazai and Aftab Alam have been left out for Dawlat Zadran and Samiullah Shinwari. Shinwari is playing his first match of the tournament.
