Olympian Zakir Hussain passes away


Olympian and the man entitled as the Great Wall of China Zakir Hussain passed away on Monday. He was 85.  Former goalkeeper for Pakistan’s national hockey team’s funeral prayer will be held at his native town Gulshen Anwar Masjid, Jinnah Colony, Wah Cantt.
Zakir represented the country in 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico where the team won gold medal. He represented the country in Rome Olympics in 1960 and gold medal and he was part of Pakistan team which won silver medal in 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne.
He also represented Pakistan in 1958 and 1964 Asian Games and bagged gold medals for the country. Zakir was on bed due to protracted illness for the past many years.
He was laid to rest at a graveyard near POF in Wah Cantt on Monday evening. A large number of people belong to different walks of life and sports men attended his funeral prayer.
Pakistan Sports Board former director general Bridger (R) Arif Saddique expressed sorrow and grief over the death of a sport legend.
