PTI candidate Sadiq Sanjrani elected as Chairman Senate
Sadiq Sanjrani, the joint candidate of the ruling alliance, has been re-elected as the Chairman Senate.
Out of the total 98 votes polled, Sadiq Sanjrani secured 48 votes whilst his rival and candidate of opposition parties Yousaf Raza Gilani got 42 votes.
Later, Sadiq Sanjrani took oath as the Chairman Senate for the second consecutive three year term.
Presiding Officer Sayed Muzafar Hussain Shah administered the oath.
In his remarks after taking oath, Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani thanked the Senators who reposed confidence in him and voted in his favour. He also thanked the entire leadership of PTI including Prime Minister Imran Khan for their support. He said that he will continue to take all the Senators along.
Now the process has started for the election of Deputy Chairman Senate. The contest is between Mirza Muhammad Afridi of the ruling alliance and Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri of the opposition parties.
